Despite opposition from Vulcan, the Dominion becomes a member of the Federation but the situation escalates when an attack on the Federation President's ship is perpetrated and Starfleet keeps the fact that the Vulcans are responsible secret for the time being. Robert Thomas investigates the case undercover and travels to Deep Space Nine to meet T'Val. However Thomas waits in vain as T'Val sends him a message: The Vulcans are changing, they can no longer control their emotions and are quitting the Federation. Thomas travels to Vulcan and meets T'Val's family but it's a trap, not even Robert Thomas suspects the true extent of the conspiracy ...

Three Romulan super soldiers are found in suspension on the planet Mars, and a crippled starship is diverted to Mars to transport them after repairs are completed. When enemy agents release them remotely,  they begin to terrorize the population. As tensions heat up with the Romulans, the starship Hornet dispatches soldiers to the surface in an effort to stop them. It may be too late for the galaxy however, if the alien plot is not uncovered in time.
